June...the month of Rex

It's hard to believe that June has come and is almost gone. To start off the month, Rex had the wonderful opportunity to hike Havasupai with the young men from our ward. I was very excited that he was able to go, however, we have been wanting to do this particular hike together for the last three years so, to be honest...there was a little jealously on my part.

A month before the trip he decided it was time to get some hiking shoes and break them in to prepare for the 20 mile hike. To do so, on Saturday's he would take Kennedy hiking up South Mountain (as seen the May post). On one such excursion, 4 days before the trip, it was hot and Kennedy was not happy (by not happy, I mean screaming at the top of her lungs). Rex decided to make a run for it (as fast as you can with a 14 pound baby strapped to your chest) to get her home for a nap. As he was jogging down the trail, he hit a rock with the front of his newly broken in hiking shoe and ripped the front completely off. Unfortunately, this caused him to have to hike 10 miles downhill on the first day of the trip in brand new, never been worn hiking shoes. As you can imagine, he had some nice big blisters on the bottom of his feet to show for it. But that didn't stop him from having a great time. I am not sure what was more exciting for him....to see some of the most incredible waterfalls in the world or to use his sweet newly purchased camping gear. Here are some beautiful pictures of the falls. Rex says the pictures don't really do the place justice but they look pretty incredible to me.

A week after Rex's fun adventure, we celebrated is 31st "birthweek" (we like to drag out the whole birthday thing as long as we can in this family). This birthday was not quite as painful for him as the 30th but, we did hear a few gripes and moans over the fact that I had to buy three packages of candles for the cake. I will admit that there was just a little teasing about this on my end :). On Friday night (the official day was Sunday) we hired a sitter for the very first time and went to dinner at CPK and saw the highly anticipated Ocean's 13 on it's opening day (which we absolutely loved). On Saturday we caught up with some old friends from BYU, Keith, Nicci, and Kennedy's future husband Austin, and had cake and ice cream. On Sunday we went over to some neighbors and attempted to play our favorite game, Settlers. Kennedy didn't last very long and after many attempts to get her to sleep somewhere other than her own bed...she won. We left with only finishing about half of the game. All in all, we had a great time celebrating.

The month of Rex would not be complete without a celebration of our favorite Daddy on Father's Day. It was a great day, we had lunch with some friends and just relaxed the day away. Very fitting since it was about 110 degrees outside.

Wow! That was a lot. This blog thing would be so much easier if we updated it more than once a month. I am going to take a mental note of that for the future. We are so excited to see many of you in the upcoming weeks as we make our big trip to Utah and Idaho. See you soon!
